My thoughts on the U.S. Open

Congratulations to JJ Spaun on an incredible win in last week’s U.S. Open. After the start he made, I never thought he would recover! There were so many talking points about this event, especially regarding the course set-up. I, for one, doubt I would be able to finish that course! Watching the very best players in the world struggle with a course set-up that was continually penalising certainly made the event more watchable. Do you think this is what we should see more often?

It’s time for the U.S. Open!

It’s another huge week in the golfing calendar with the U.S. Open Championship starting today at Oakmont Country Club, just outside Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. This is the venue that has hosted to most U.S. Opens so is steeped in tradition. One of those memorable moments was in 1994, when Ernie Els captured his first Major title here. Go back even further to 1953, and you’ll find Ben Hogan claiming victory at Oakmont just weeks after winning the Masters. He went on to win the Open Championship at Carnoustie that same year, becoming the first player to win three Majors in a single season. Remarkably, he couldn’t attempt the career Grand Slam that year because the PGA Championship and The Open were played at the same time!

What can we learn from the Scheffler shuffle?

Scottie Scheffler does it again! Back-to-back wins at the Memorial Tournament. Very impressive! He’s firmly establishing himself as the man to beat in the world of golf, and Jack Nicklaus had plenty of praise for his performance.
