It’s another huge week in the golfing calendar with the U.S. Open Championship starting today at Oakmont Country Club, just outside Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. This is the venue that has hosted to most U.S. Opens so is steeped in tradition. One of those memorable moments was in 1994, when Ernie Els captured his first Major title here. Go back even further to 1953, and you’ll find Ben Hogan claiming victory at Oakmont just weeks after winning the Masters. He went on to win the Open Championship at Carnoustie that same year, becoming the first player to win three Majors in a single season. Remarkably, he couldn’t attempt the career Grand Slam that year because the PGA Championship and The Open were played at the same time!
