Phil vs. Tiger…no comment!

These ladies are keen!

After the success of our last “bunnies” group, several of the ladies asked to continue with their tuition and as a result we now have the “bunnies level 2 clinics”! This week, 9 ladies arrived to practise their iron play and to learn a little about playing from sloping lies from myself and Sikhumbuzo. I am delighted to see this enthusiasm! The fact that after their lesson on a Wednesday morning they then get to play a few holes on Thursday under the gentle wings of some of our lady members, makes this programme the envy of many clubs in SA.

So close for Bertus!

Bertus Versteegh is plaing his best golf ever!

Bertus approached me about 2 months ago for help with his game and was prepared to travel down from Amatikulu each week for a lesson. The past weekend he was the runner-up in their Club Championship, missing top honours by a single shot!

“ I can’t believe the difference in my game, that is the best golf I have ever played and the drills we worked on in the past few lessons have eliminated my slice and improved my distance”. – Bertus Versteegh

Below is a video of the drill that helped Bertus, please watch it and see if it helps you.

It doesn’t matter which aspect of your game you are looking to improve, we will have an approach to help you on your journey to better golf and more fun. Contact us to book a lesson.

We have some fresh turf in the field

It’s nice to have Melissa join us.

Melissa Eaton (LPGA player) has joined our team and teaches on Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays at the Range. This week she had a group of ladies perfecting their bunker play…fantastic to see!

If you want to sign to join one of our weekly ladies groups, contact us here.

Better distance control equals less than 3 putts

During the first three weeks, we have discussed the importance of the correct loft at impact and how crucial it
is to fit a putter to match your technique.
The correct launch off the putter face allows you to improve your control of ball speed on the green.
Get that right and you’ll roll the ball consistently every time.

golf distance control

‘Launch’ is the angle the ball comes off the putter face. Too high or low a launch off the putter face will affect your distance control, dramatically. Lack of consistency will affect your feel and confidence, and that just exaggerates the problem.

Let’s get you closer from further

Do you often feel you made a great stroke yet the result was disappointing? Launch is a vital factor to get
right and can be poor due to your equipment or your technique. Let us help

Have you played Scramble with friends?

Most golfers, when asked what they look forward to most say: “having some fun with my friends”.
So here’s a suggestion for you. Play a Texas Scramble – if you do want to compete with
each other then play a Scramble Drive.

golfing fun

You all tee off together and then, on all but the Par 3s, choose the best drive and all play your second shot from there. It means you’re together on the tee, all together with your second shot (again on all but the Par 3s), and again on the green. It is a really social format.

Hitting golf shots from the fairway

Sometimes it just doesn’t work for you off the tee. And while we know that improving your short-game is
your quickest route to a lower score, we also know a day hunting for balls in rough and forest,
because of wild tee shots, is the quickest way to a less happy experience. If you struggle off the tee,
then come and see us. Don’t live with a game that has you hunting golf balls

Happy golfing!

Come and spend your Friday night under the lights

The Annual PGA Junior Pro AM

This past weekend the PGA of KZN hosted the annual PGA Junior Pro AM at San Lameer. It was an absolute privilege to be involved in this event and to see the future of golf in our country looking so bright. The event would not have been possible without the assistance of the PGA, San Lameer, The Mark McNulty Foundation as well as some of our members.

Thank you to Neil Loudon (Cuzzie) from Umzolozolo 5 star Game Lodge, Bryan Mahler from Watches Unlimited, Richard Downey from Thule, Melville Vogel from Sun International and Monica Blomefield from the Mount Edgecombe Driving Range. Your generosity went a long way to making this such a wonderful event.

A swing tip for the more advanced players

As you can see Shaun has battles with keeping a nice strong base to his swing. His legs were out of “sync” and this affects his power and consistency. In the video you will see the drills we worked on to help this.

National Golf Day

Monday, 3 September is National Golf Day and all 6 of South Africa’s major winners have signed up to take you on! That means if you sign up to play in the National Golf Day, you will have the opportunity to challenge your golfing heroes head to head in a Stableford scoring event, live.

Everyone has their own day. There are famous days like Braai Day on the 24th of September and Valentines Day on February 14th. But we’re excited to announce that now there is a National Golf Day. This is a day dedicated entirely to golfers. A day for those who love the game, play the game, want to play the game or used to play the game.

Visit the website for more information or to sign up.

We want to help more of our golfers experience the joy of a sweetly struck, accurate iron shot more often.
That means increasing consistency, and how square to target line the club face is at impact.

None of this is helped by manufacturer’s all having different ‘standard’ lengths on their clubs.
We reviewed four models from four major manufacturer’s and there was nearly an inch between
their standard #7 iron lengths.

Get fitted. “You’re worth it”, especially if you’re inexperienced, or inconsistent in your ball striking.
Experienced and supremely skilled athletes can make swing adjustments to poorly fitted irons. The rest of us can’t.

We want everyone; irrespective of their background, their gender, or their age; to experience
golf as potentially the greatest social and healthy activity available to them.
To do that, we’ve had to catch up with the changes in the world.

This is a great advert that highlights how much more important healthy, social, outdoor activity is to married couples
as they approach retirement.

This sort of social commentary (and advertisers who understand their market) clearly demonstrates that past-times are shared by couples. Less and less does a husband or wife disappear.

 If you have a spouse who doesn’t play golf; they may have had a negative experience previously;
then let us introduce them to a world of healthy, outdoor, very social enjoyment.

We need to keep our current participants playing the game, and even make it possible for them to play more often.
We also need more golfers. So, two birds and one stone. If you have a partner who doesn’t play golf,
then send them to us, and let us introduce them to the best outdoor activity forever!

One week to go until our favourite Friday of the month!

The Champion Golfer of the year

The last day of the Open was awesome and a very humble and deserving Champion emerged. Some of my observations…

Jordan Speith – A fantastic competitor, but it shows what pressure does to all golfers, in that come the last day he again battled with the putter.

Rory McIlroy – Surely the most talented player our there, he came second and looked like he never came out of 3rd gear.

Tiger Woods – Finished 6th and had a share of the lead with 9 holes to play, unbelievable comeback when you think of what he had been through. Dare I say that he still never really looked like winning.

Bernhard Langer – 24th place finish and only seven behind the winner. He’s 60 years old…

Keep an eye on these new golfers!

This week we saw two new golfers graduate from our Learner Golfer Program. Both Lynne and Cliff started from scratch with us 4 months ago and as you can see are now ready to get on to the course and have some fun.

Friday night under lights

Friday 3rd August is our next event sponsored by Harbour Wealth. There are some fun competitions for all with nice cash prizes, as well as live music and some wonderful specials at Monica’s.

You may have played golf for health and well-being, social, and recreational reasons for 20+ years.
You have had some coaching in the beginning, but since then you’ve only had “fix” lessons. I
f you’re shooting in the low 90’s or high 80’s, you have proven athletic ability.
How good could you be?

This isn’t about pumping iron and becoming the young stud.
It’s about maximising the potential of technique and timing. Get that right and:
