One week to go until our favourite Friday of the month!

The Champion Golfer of the year

The last day of the Open was awesome and a very humble and deserving Champion emerged. Some of my observations…

Jordan Speith – A fantastic competitor, but it shows what pressure does to all golfers, in that come the last day he again battled with the putter.

Rory McIlroy – Surely the most talented player our there, he came second and looked like he never came out of 3rd gear.

Tiger Woods – Finished 6th and had a share of the lead with 9 holes to play, unbelievable comeback when you think of what he had been through. Dare I say that he still never really looked like winning.

Bernhard Langer – 24th place finish and only seven behind the winner. He’s 60 years old…

Keep an eye on these new golfers!

This week we saw two new golfers graduate from our Learner Golfer Program. Both Lynne and Cliff started from scratch with us 4 months ago and as you can see are now ready to get on to the course and have some fun.

Friday night under lights

Friday 3rd August is our next event sponsored by Harbour Wealth. There are some fun competitions for all with nice cash prizes, as well as live music and some wonderful specials at Monica’s.

The Open Championship is here

The most exciting week of the golfing year has arrived with The Open Championship starting tomorrow at Carnoustie. I can’t wait. What adds to the excitement is the performance of Brandon Stone winning the Scottish Open last week in unbelievable fashion, who now will be teeing it up at Carnoustie. Lets hope his wonderful form continues…

All The Open venues have an abundance of history and for me Carnoustie has perhaps one of the most special stories to tell. As a self-confessed “Hogan” disciple, his performance there in 1953 is worth remembering for the following reasons:

That year Hogan won 5 times, including:

The Masters which he won by 5 shots, The US Open which he won by 6 shots and The Open which he won by 4 shots.

The Open win was in his only attempt, and his first look at Links Golf. He never had the chance to play in the PGA Championship that year and the voyage by ship back to the USA took too long. In a career interrupted by World War Two and an life threating car crash in 1949, in this writers opinion he was the greatest player of all time.

My introduction to his teaching and technique came via my coach, Australian Peter Croker (pictured here on the cover of Golf Digest). Croker, who was mentored by the recently deceased Peter Thompson (who won the Open 5 times and who was runner up to Hogan in 1953) and who arranged an invitation for Croker to spend time with Hogan at his home course in Texas, teaching and discussing his thoughts about the golf swing. This access allowed Croker to explore new avenues of thought and I was lucky to have spent several years working side by side with him. He without a doubt taught me how to teach!

Need help with your game? One of these courses might be just what you need!

If you’ve already shown the athletic ability to get to 90 or threaten that score,
then it’s highly likely that we can help you improve your swing quickly to the point that you’re in the low 80’s.
The question is how quickly and easily?

Who will overcome the toughest test in golf?

Next week, we’re off to Scotland. At least metaphorically, as we tune into the Open Championship at Carnoustie. We’re excited.

While there was carnage on day 3 of the US Open, someone, in defense of what was happening at Shinnecock, made the point that each Major has its own character or personality. A gentleman called Mike Aldrich described it as, “The Masters is refined. The Open provides tradition & challenging weather. The PGA is fun & accessible. The US Open is brutally unforgiving.”

There was an Open Championship at Carnoustie in 1999 that was beyond brutal. Weather and rough caused one golfer to take refuge in his mother’s arms, after two rounds in the 80’s. That Open also gave us the infamous Jean van de Valde meltdown. Let’s hope it doesn’t turn out that way and we get to see some great golf, in a very traditional environment.

Who do you think will overcome the toughest test in golf? Leave a comment to let us know.

If you’re shooting scores in the high 80’s or early 90’s,
then you’re already showing the athletic ability to play this game well.
The question now is; how quickly and easily can you go lower?

We’ll start with an assessment of each golfer to identify the personal opportunities,
but our experience tells us that the improvement areas will lead to:

If that’s a golf experience that appeals to you, then please don’t wait.
Start the journey to hitting even better golf shots.

Happy golfing!
